Frugal Friday-Bread Sale

bread sale

Becky hits the $.50 bread sale once a month. It’s day-old bread, but we freeze it and use it all month. The eight packages in this picture cost less than one loaf in the grocery store.

This is just one way to save on your grocery bill. But it adds up fast if you buy the good stuff…like multi-grain bread.

What kind of food sales do you have in your area?

  1. I’m always happy when fresh whole chicken is $5 or less . This what I do with that chicken.

    1. I use the white meat for roasting = two meals .

    2. The back, wings, neck are used to make chicken stock= 6 meals

    3. The legs are used for frying or grilling = 1 1/2 meals .

    4. I always have the option to any of the above to make chicken pot pie, my families favorite = 1 huge meal

  2. Not long after my daughter got married, she advised me that almost any recipe calling for chicken can be better made with a fresh from the store rotisserie chicken. This is the first time I have experienced that with her. She brought home one of these creatures that she picked up on her way in from work, added a veggie and had a warm dinner for the kids in minutes drumsticks, their favorite, and we each had a slice of breast, without using the electric oven or having to turn on fans to cool the place. The next day we had chicken sandwiches at lunch and finished off the chicken as chicken tortilla soup at supper. Well, no one wanted chicken noodle soup or chicken and dumplings so I just cleaned the bones, put meat scraps in the fridge for snacking and threw away the carcase. I think the 4 of us got her $5.00 out of it.
